Terms of use

These terms are an agreement between you and Nikklab Inc. ("we") for using Pertain. By using Pertain, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Pertain.

What Pertain is

Pertain picks news stories that may affect your life, based on what you tell us, and explains in a line or two why they might matter to you. Stories come from third-party publishers and public sources. Summaries and personal lines are written with the help of AI.

Not professional advice

Pertain gives general information only. It isn't financial, investment, tax, legal, immigration or medical advice, and it doesn't replace a professional who knows your situation. A "What to do" line is a pointer to check something, not a recommendation to act. AI-written text and news reports can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, so check anything important with the original source or a qualified professional before you act on it. Number alerts depend on third-party data that can be delayed or wrong, so don't rely on them for time-critical decisions.

Your account

• You must be at least 16 to use Pertain.
• Keep the information you give us accurate if you want relevant news, and keep your sign-in secure.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app. Doing so doesn't cancel an App Store subscription.

Pertain Premium

• Pertain needs a Premium subscription. It's offered monthly or yearly, at the prices shown in the app before you buy. Prices may vary by country and include any taxes Apple applies.
• Free trial: new subscribers may get a free trial. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, your subscription starts and you're charged. You can get one free trial per Apple Account.
• Automatic renewal: your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Your Apple Account is charged within 24 hours before renewal.
• Cancelling: manage or cancel in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. If you cancel, you keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
• If we change a price, Apple will tell you before it applies to you, as its rules require.
• We may sometimes give free access, for example to testers. It ends on the date we set.

Content

News articles belong to their publishers. Pertain shows headlines, short summaries and links to the original articles; open an article to read it in full on the publisher's site. Pertain's own design, text and software belong to Nikklab Inc. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for your own, non-commercial purposes.

Fair use

Don't misuse Pertain. For example, don't try to access other people's data, scrape or resell content, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or use it to break the law. We may suspend accounts that do.

Changes and availability

We're always improving Pertain, so features may change, and we may add or remove news sources. We may update these terms; if a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If we ever stop offering Pertain, we'll give you notice in the app.

Liability

Pertain is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or complete, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions you make based on its content. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Pertain in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

Apple

These terms are between you and Nikklab Inc., not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for Pertain or its content, has no obligation to provide support for it, and isn't responsible for claims about it. If Pertain fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, except where these terms say otherwise.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you live elsewhere, you also keep any protections your local laws give you.
